What does a life coach do?

A life coach is someone who ’ll help you get from where you are now, to where you really want to be - whether that be in your career, relationships or other aspects of life.

Most life coaches work on the telephone or in person, and you arrange to talk for 45 minutes, two to three times a month.

A life coach isn’t someone who has all the answers - you find your own. As your coach I aim to get to the source of what is really stopping you moving forward in your life, and encourage you to sort it out. All you need to be is committed, honest and open.

What can life coaching do for me?

What do you want it to do for you?  Then that's what we'll aim for.

Perhaps you've decided you want to go for your dreams. Perhaps to kick start a new career, a greater income, a promotion, weight loss, a balance of home/work life or much more. Life coaching offers you focus, sustainability, and accountability.

Even if all you have right now is a vague sense that you'd like to make some changes in your life, but you're not sure what they are, we will find out what it is you're looking for and  goals for you to work towards.

Clients might achieve external success, such as getting a great job, getting to a healthy weight or landing a publishing deal. But more importantly, they usually make some quite radical internal shifts and end up feeling more confident, fulfilled, less stressed and happier.

Is life coaching similar to counselling or psychotherapy?

No,  counselling  deals with single or specific problems by looking to the past. Psychotherapy looks at your whole past and reduces its influence on today.

Coaching is about where you want to go next, (using your skills from the past) and stepping forward with them.

I believe that everybody has a certain amount of baggage which they acquire through their life's experiences. Therapy would help you go through that baggage, analysing what's there, and throwing unhelpful things out. Life coaching will help you pick out the bits of your baggage you can learn most from, then step forward into the future with them.
